Most people just yell, “I quit!” or yell at a customer or something. But Timothy Tackett went for the gold–or silver, as it may be–by taking a bath in a BK stainless steel sink, filming it and putting it up on YouTube. Enjoy your fourteen remaining minutes, TT.
I’m a big fan of these typewriter waffles. Kids can practice touch-typing instead of playing with their food, and people with a ton of time on their hands can pipe little letters in with frosting or something. Yum!

This week, I got two heads of cauliflower in my CSA box. Two heads! The last time I got cauliflower a couple of months ago, I’d quickly grown tired of eating it raw or in vegetable soup. Krista, my vegetarian new neighbor, suggested I make cauliflower mash.

Anyone who’s lived or attended college in the Northeast is familiar with Yuengling, and specifically, Yuengling lager. The brewery has been in Pottstown, Pennsylvania since 1829, making it the oldest American brewery. Their lager is awesome. It is only available in ten states–Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, [...]
I like it. This beats a stupid commercial any day. It’s near the Denver airport.
Yup. It’s a crop circle. Neat, huh? Papa John’s isn’t the only company to advertise through crop circles. The CircleMakers, another group that does custom crop circles, has been commissioned to implement designs for the likes of Greenpeace, Microsoft, Nike and [...]
The domestic diva has sure come a long way in the last twenty years… Exhibit A:

After traveling home to LA for the weekend via Greyhound (the ultimate mode of budget travel), I’ve come down with something yucky. Maybe it was the toddler who coughed and puked his way through a three-hour ride from Los Angeles to Santa Maria and beyond. I felt bad for both mother and baby, but worse for myself today.
What are your favorite ways to beat the doldrums of a summer cold? I’ve been making chicken soup from scratch, adding some broccoli rabe and summer squash from my CSA box into the mix. I’ve also been drinking plenty of tea and fresh-squeezed orange juice, the latter of which is also from my CSA box.
I’m trying to hurry up and get better before this weekend’s trip to San Francisco for Slow Food Nation. I’m covering two events for FoodBuzz.com and staying with Kim, a fellow Penn softball alumna that I am proud to say was my recruit!

This week, I got two heads of cauliflower in my CSA box. Two heads! The last time I got cauliflower a couple of months ago, I’d quickly grown tired of eating it raw or in vegetable soup. Krista, my vegetarian new neighbor, suggested I make cauliflower mash.
I searched online for recipes of this so-called mash, but couldn’t find anything that didn’t have butter, sugar, ranch dressing, heavy cream or milk. Not that I’m vegan, but the whole point of the CSA box is that I try to make super-healthy meals with it, Iron Chef-style. I don’t care how many heads of cauliflower are in it, if there’s a stick of butter, sugar and ranch dressing, it’s not healthy anymore. So I made my own recipe.
I steamed the two heads of chopped cauliflower in my bamboo steamer until it was tender. I threw two or three big cloves of garlic in there too, for good measure. I then tossed the cauliflower and garlic in my Vita-Mix with about 3/4 cup of the hot water I used to steam the cauliflower. I added a shake of Suzy Q for good measure, as well as a smattering of ground black pepper, a couple shakes of ground nutmeg and a light tap of cumin (my ground cumin doesn’t have the plastic top with the holes in it for some reason). I pureed the whole thing up, and when I tapped out the mash into a casserole dish, it actually smelled awesome.
The texture was like a very light mashed potato, and there was just a hint of cauliflower on the nose. I stuck the casserole dish in the oven at 350 for ten minutes, until the top had lightly browned. I wish I’d had the foresight to take pictures, but frankly, the cauliflower mash didn’t last long enough to get up to grab the camera. It was, in a word, awesome. So much so that I can’t wait to make it for my family when I go home to visit this weekend!
I have been having fun scouring the web for all the latest that’s fit to print at TrendHunter. Have you seen my page there? Last week, the site reached 5 million views–for the month.
I’ve been taking care of a bunch of things offline this week and will travel home to see my family this weekend.
In the meantime, Philadelphia and Starr Restaurant Organization friends, can you believe the negativity our dear friend Marnie Old is getting over there? I definitely don’t miss the small-town Philly politics.
It takes a lot of fuel to power an Olympian. How about all of the Olympians in Beijing’s Olympic Village? Between coaches, competitors and staff, over 800,000 eggs will be consumed, among many other things.
Blogger Jon Henley of The Guardian made a valiant effort to eat like Michael Phelps, but failed miserably.
I’ve recently begun posting trends on TrendHunter.com. You can check out my latest trends in two places: on the sidebar of this blog, and at TrendHunter.com/MBrassfield. At this very moment, my piece on Kinesio taping in the Olympics has 4,634 views in the 24 hours it’s been up, and another piece on Mean Cards, a creation by a former coworker at SRO, Julianna Holowka, has 4,034 views in the 48 hours it’s been up.
Apparently when you move your server, you have to update your original feed address on Feedburner. Whoops! Anyway, the feed’s back online now, which also means my Twitter updates will begin to update again.
